Scientists Create Human-Pig Hybrid In Hopes Of Creating Lab-Grown Organs

A pig embryo injected with human cells that grew / lived to be four weeks old.

In an experiment that seems like something out of Science Fiction (or at least South Park), researchers have successfully created the first animal-human hybrid, specifically a human-pig hybrid.

Sal describes himself as a "normal guy" who just likes to have fun and is looking for love.

With the recent advances in biomedical technology the dreams are to one day be able to produce (and have readily available) life-saving replacement organs in large quantities.

The idea is that instead of waiting on a generous donor (dead or alive), they could just grow the organ inside an animal.

This biomedical advance has long been a dream as well as a controversial issue for scientists hoping to address the critical shortage of donor organs.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, every ten minutes a person is added to the national waiting list for organ transplants, and every day 22 people on that list die waiting for the organ they need.

Who can't imagine strolling through a super-walmart sized facility picking out your new liver?

Technically speaking (for you science nerds), the team has only created a "Chimera", which is defined as an organism that contains cells from two different species. The research was partly based off previous experiments that successfully spliced a mouse and a rat which managed to lived into adulthood.

While the intention is for a good and noble cause, it's almost certain that greedy investors will be lining up to get a piece of this very profitable action.

Even with the corruption and greed that seems to run rampant in almost any large scale business, the future of readily available replacement organs seems bright, as long as nothing goes wrong like some kind of freak genetic mutation...

If nothing else, the combination of adventurous science and ruthless corporate greed should at least provide for an entertaining (yet most likely horrifying ) end of mankind as we know it.
